A fish tale

I paused by the pond in North Chagrin Reservation this afternoon to watch a heron fishing for his evening meal. He speared one fish, gulped it down, and immediately began searching for another. The water was covered with algae so his prey was mostly invisible. I can't help but wonder if he fishes by sight or by sound. Maybe both? He waits and waits and waits and then dives into the water and comes up with a fish speared on his bill. Eventually he had enough and flew away. That's when I took this picture. He looks especially good in large.

If you want to see the entire sequence, I posted it here.

Weather report: Mostly sunny with a high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit. No rain fell today!
