Malaysia travels day 13 - Melaka

After a 15 minute taxi ride, a 10 o'clock flight from Langkawi to KL, then a shuttle bus from KLIA to LCCT (the low cost terminal), then a 2 hour wait (I read 'Hello'!), a 2 hour bus trip to Melaka Sentral and a 15 minute taxi ride to the hotel. The tv did NOT have BBC World (unlike the Frangipani) so it's back to repeating travelogues on TLC.

Melaka is also a UNESCO World Heritage city. Both it and George Town were part of the Straits Settlement. Melaka has Portuguese, Dutch and British heritage and a mix of Malay, Baba Nonya (Straits Chinese), and Indian. I like going up so it was up the rotating Menara Taming Sari for a view over the town and then a hunt for an ice cold Tiger before a meal beside the river.

This is Merdeka Square with the, chiming, clocktower, the Dutch Stadthuys on the right and hidden behind the tower, the church. In front of the church all the trishaw drivers line up, their trishaws covered in garish artificial flowers pumping out loud music from their boomboxes.
