Perfect

....not the photo, but that was the name of the song being performed by this group, a mix of rap and Arab rai music at the soirée Tahrir in support of the democracy protests in Arab countries this year. I've never heard a double bass played quite like this before, and any suggestions as to the name of the instrument on the right are welcome! The presenter of the soirée had a live phone conversation on stage with an Egyptian theatre director who was in Egypt and who said that the revolution had only just begun, but had already led to a huge wave of creativity.

A very late blip after getting home from Lodève, but I'll be there again on Tuesday and Thursday, so will have more to say about the Mediterranean poetry festival. This was a great start to it.

Edit: Thanks to Ceridwen for identifying the instrument on the right as a sintir or guembri, used in Gnawa music. You can hear one being played in rather more traditional style than I heard last night here
