Marjorie's ramblings

Places to see before you die

This is High Cup Nick, an outcrop of the famous whin sill as it crosses the country from east to west. You have to know that I am standing on the edge and that this is a very deep valley. We are looking towards the Eden Valley and the Lake District.

For walkers: we started at Dufton and ascended via an old mine road that leads to Great Rundale Tarn. We passed the transition point where water draining changes from going west to going east (to the North Sea). We approached High Cup Nick from the east to gain the best view and the most "Wows" from those who had not seen it before.

En route we acquired 2 young walkers who were very lost and had missed their path to the Pennine Way by quite a margin. They came with us and then were taken by car to their intended destination.

The image is a panorama of hand held images, stitched in Photoshop 5 and then processed using curves and levels.

No photo can do justice to this spectacular view (especially into the sun on a very bright day!)
