Turn Back Time

Great day for getting lost in the past, courtesy of Iain Pears' first-rate novel Stone's Fall. In 1909, after a wealthy industrialist and arms magnate who's spent the last two decades arming all of Europe falls to his death, a young reporter attempts to uncover the tale of his demise, and the truth about his mysterious wife. But as the plot unfolds, the novel moves not forward in time, but back: we learn the dark and complex histories of the characters, first in Paris in 1890, then Venice in 1867. Astonishingly well-written, and I can't wait to reach the end.

Memory card seems to have functioned adequately today, although I think I'm going to accept everyone's advice and just spend a few quid on a new one to be safe.
