Tokaji

Back blip

I went along to today's music session all ready to apologise for the poor quality of the DVD I'd put together for my 10-minute segment. As it turned out, no apology was necessary, since everything looked just fine on today's host's TV. I guess mine needs to be put out to grass (ah, the penalties of being an early adopter!), since the only explanation I could come up with is that my TV's refresh rate is only 60Hz, lower than today's host's. Anyway, there were lots of oohs and aahs, so all the work was worth while.

Each year, today's host throws what he calls a Summer Sizzle party, which basically means that we retire to the deck out back and stuff ourselves with barbecued sausages and salads and nibblies and wine and other such goodies. It isn't always that we're actually able to be al fresco, but today's weather was cooperative for a change and we had a grand old time lapping up the sunshine along with the wine. Producing a bottle of Tokaji to wind things up was a spur-of-the-moment gesture by our host which went down very well with those of us who were still there (which, naturally, included yours truly and Carl).

One of today's crowd is a group member we haven't seen for a while, and he invited Carl and myself back to his place when the Summer Sizzle wound down. Despite all the food we'd already eaten, we stopped off at a Chinese takeaway en route. It turned into a late night, with more food and drink and lots of music.

All in all, a terrific day.
