Ticking Away the Moments

Another trip to Twickenham

Backblip from yesterday's visit to Twickenham to watch the England v Wales 'friendly'. Had a good time with some friends who we often go to rugby with, pre match visit to Subway followed by the Cabbage Patch pub - too crowded to get anywhere near the bar so we only stayed for one drink. Walked further down and found the Fanzone - an old barn that has been converted to a bar, with a big screen, food and a beer garden, perfect.

Our seats were good, game started off ok, but tailed off (or the other way round if you are Welsh). But there seemed to be lots of people there who weren't into the game which seems odd at those prices! Two women in front of us sat and chatted for the entire game (didn't seem to draw breath either!), not even pretending to watch. We did get a bit annoyed at the Mexican Wave as well, a player was down needing medical treatment, eventually being stretchered off - bit disrespectful.

Made our way to the Scrum Bar after the game to listen to the karaoke and drink while we carried out our postmortem of the game and decided who to drop from the team and who to persevere with. Then it was time for the walk back into the town for something to eat - there were 5 of us so we'd booked a table at a fairly new Indian restaurant called Indus. Don't think they were quite ready for the madness that is a full house game, 80,000 extra people is a lot to cope with for one town - so it was a bit chaotic. But when the food finally came, it was excellent so we were very happy.

Finally finished stuffing our faces, before catching the bus back to where we were staying, while our friends headed back to Clapham Junction to get their train back to Haywards Heath where they live. Tiring day, but good fun!

Final score was England 23 Wales 19 - the return match is next week at the Millennium stadium but we'll be watching on TV, we need a few lazy weekends at home I think.
