Eisenia foetida...

I was advised by Eco-Dad not to shout "I've got worms!!!" out loud but.... it was a bit late.

I came in today to find a small box of worms waiting for me on my desk. Pete (Eco-Dad) brought me them from his allotment. This is a Brandling worm or Tiger worm and these little critters are slightly different from the common soil worm in that they live above ground and feed on organic matter. It is this feeding habit that is very useful in that they are very good at turning organic matter into compost.

They are now taking up habitation in our compost bin.
