Lunch in Austria

We left Udine in northwestern Italy this morning, taking a bus run by the Austrian Railways (Oesterreichische Bundesbahn) to Villach in Austria. There we missed our train connection to Bled in Slovenia, and thus we had to have lunch in Villach.

Not too much of a hardship, as you can see. I had roast pork (Schweinsbraten) with its accompaniments, while Marylee had a pasta dish with gnocchi-like noodles with bits of pumpkin smothered in cheese (there were lots of things with pumpkin on the menu). The dark beer (draft) was wonderful--I'd never had such a tall half-liter glass of beer.

When we finally reached Bled the car rental agency had closed at 2 pm (our fully paid voucher said it would be open till 6 pm). Fortunately we were staying in town, but it was a longish walk uphill with our baggage. Dinner in town was our third meal of the day in as many countries.

More tomorrow--on top of it all the WIFI at the B&B is mediocre at best.
