Barking

By Barking

Winter

The chill on the tip of my nose, first thing in the morning
The mad dash, running the gauntlet to the bathroom
Steam warms the air before plunging into the icy depths of nakedness.

The shiny wonderland outside my window
Breath steaming, glasses steaming, hot cups of tea steaming
And toast, dripping with butter, eaten quickly while still warm.

Jack Frost's patterns making the world seem more textured
Like fabric designed for this season only
'Get it while you can'.

Porridge bubbling on the stove, brown sugar
Or syrup for real decadence
Hats, gloves, scarves wake from hibernation
Groggy with mustiness.

Winter is upon us.
Welcome her in.
Embrace her.

A better day today. Came home to Canterbury's Focaccia, gently rising. Can't wait for the bread baking smells.

Canterbury's birthday next Tuesday. He gave me a present list, ranging from a few dollars to a Canon 1DS Mark III, retailing at a massive $11,999. He's seen my payslip, surely? I feel some shopping coming on at the weekend.

Happy Birthday Mack
