While on my runs

By waipushrink

Arc by Charlotte Fisher, 2004

Back in Auckland for an equally grey day as the last couple. Indeed I was fortunate to have a run between the downpours.

Deliberately went to the Auckland Domain where this sculpture is set in a grassy clearing by a path running beside the boundary with the Auckland City Hospital.

The columnar base is granite while the arc and the seven vertical forms are made of bronze. The artist was influenced in her design by an ancient European petroglyph thought to be a representation of sailors on a boat. This seems an appropriate symbol for the voyages of discovery and settlement from which has developed this land known as Aotearoa or New Zealand.

Another in my series of public outdoor sculptures.
