Herriot Way. Day 2. Low road to Grinton

13 mile walk from Keld to Grinton along the beautiful Swaledale Valley and in sunny , though cold, weather. Lovely countryside and villages and the famous, to me anyway, stone barns which appear to be in every field. 'These stone barns probably started replacing timber barns in the early 18th century during the great rebuild of farmhouses in stone. They were different to the earlier timber buildings in that they combined the functions of cattle house and fodder storage. Farming was changing from a subsistence economy to a cash economy and the greater wealth and the need to overwinter more and more cattle, laid the foundations for the characteristic Dales landscapes ' seen in my blip today here in Swaledale.
