A time for everything

Madison Indiana

After a cool start, it turned into a beautiful Fall day, and we got out to enjoy it by driving to Madison, Indiana and nearby Clifty Falls State Park. Madison is a delightful river town, located on the north bank of the Ohio river, and is the county seat of Jefferson County. Our drive there took us through patchy fog, sometimes quite thick - we would be driving right by the river, and you wouldn't even know there was a river there! Even when we first arrived in Madison at about 10.45, the bridge was still shrouded in fog, but as we sat for a while and watched a barge making its way along the river, the fog began to clear. We then headed up to the main street and had a coffee sitting outside in the sun, then did some more exploring of the main street and some of the surrounding historic residential area before stopping for lunch. Then we went hiking in nearby Clifty Falls State Park. This evening we went out to eat at the Iron Horse in Glendale, to celebrate my birthday a day early. There was live music while we were eating, which we really enjoyed - the guy looked to be almost our age, but he had a pretty good voice and played the guitar well, and was singing all the songs we grew up with - a fun evening!
