Serious wheels

In NZ when someone runs really fast we refer to her/him as "having wheels".

This young man has them in abundance. Brett has the new (and possibly dubious) honour of being my sports masseuse. He follows in the footsteps of strong thumbs and and knowledgeable hands. He's magic.

When Brett's not sorting out the sore and tense bodies of Christchurch he runs, not just a little bit like me, more in the 100km a week kind of running. He's New Zealand's steeplechase champion and if things go to plan he'll represent NZ in the steeplechase at the London Olympics this year.

Gosh I enjoyed talking with him. Such a positive, energetic and talented young man with a passion for running. The February earthquake destroyed our dedicated sports centre with a track. The university oval now has temporary offices on it and the Port Hills have issues with rock falls and closed tracks. Training isn't easy but it's not holding Brett back.

Oh, and a couple of other things. Brett's just bought a camera so maybe we'll see where he runs and follow his journey on blip.

And finally, yes, these are the best legs I saw today (and I'm sure Brett won't me saying so ;-)
