matchstick...

...to light a fire

matches have been around for a long time now - the first friction match - being invented in 1826 by john walker... however, a predecessor of our modern match - small sticks of pinewood impregnated with sulfur were used in China in AD 577... boo... just shows how fascinated we have been with fire over time. admit it - if you're a man - perhaps a girl, too - haven't you had your escapades with fire? maybe started some as a boy? hmmmm....

we've used matches to light lanterns, guns, cigars, stoves and cannons... but until they were refined over the years - they proved very dangerous - being banned in several countries (france, germany) at various times because of the ability to easily catch other things on fire - dresses, carpets, houses...

i tend to like the wooden matches versus the paper kind... that's what this particular cactus blossom reminded me of... perfectly formed and shaped - with the tip on the end. appearing as though you could merely strike it and up would come a flame... deeply red - wonderfully simple - a beauty to behold - it's made for...

a

happy day.....
