wander, stumble, wonder

A few of my favourite things...

Travel, sunsets and home, all in one shot. You know that left hand pointy bit on the top of Tasmania? That's it there, just out the window. There's nothing like looking out a plane window, and recognising the outlines you know so well from the maps. I'd never flown over Tassie at sunset before, other countries yes, but not my own home. And it was spectacular.

This flight pretty much starts descending before it's finished ascending, and as we flew over Bass Strait the water looked painted. We were low enough to see the texture of the water, but high enough that it looked motionless. As we flew over the western highlands the peaks were covered in mist, while the sky glowed red overhead, and the ocean was visible just beyond. There were no lights to be seen - that's a pretty remote area, but then slowly the little clusters of lights popped up, and then there was Hobart, the bridge glowing, the mountain set out against the orange skyline. It was the most beautiful flight ever.

I learnt a stack, saw far more, met so many people, and had a great time. It was very encouraging, this area of work can be incredibly slow, and it was reassuring to know I'm not the only one that finds that. It was lovely to go somewhere new, see my friends again, and come away with things to think about and apply down here.
