Purification ceremony

This is the first of my back blips from Cuba.

Today we visited a Santeria house and witnessed a Purification ceremony. Santeria is a syncretic religion that combines with worship of African gods into Catholicism. Spirit possession, physical healing, myth telling and animal sacrifice are all part of this religion. Thankfully no animals were sacrificed in this ceremony.

The priest is the older man in the background. He had sprinkled the young man in white with water dipped in a large bunch of herbs. This took place in the backyard of his house. There were several rooms in the house dedicated to different religious practices.

I'm trying out mono for some of my Cuban images.

It will probably take a few days to sort them out for uploading but I'll let you know when they are all there.
