Pueblo Blanco

Day two in the mountain village of Vejer de la Frontera.

On the 23rd of November I referenced the Moroccan mountain village of Chefchaouen. Funnily enough Vejer is twinned with Chefchaouen - the Spanish call it Xauen.

The wife of the founder of Xaun came from the Spanish village of Vejer back in the 15th Century when this part of the world was Islamic.

My blip captures a civic sculpture recognising this period of Vejer's history.

Today the village was buzzing as it is taking part in Cadiz province's tapas festival - each bar is offering a signature gourmet tapa and a glass of wine or cold beer for 1.50e!

It's also a weekend of 'Puertas Abiertas' (Open Doors) when all the public buildings in the village are open for free: including the castle; the local town hall debating chamber; palaces; churches and even private homes with beautiful Andalusian patios full of geraniums.

(I'll post a article on my blog next week).
