Unplugged

Shipping containers are big in Christchurch.

You've seen them here protecting people (though they don't look like they'd stop much off those cliffs).

Some are dented from stuff falling on them, others just sit providing some measure of protection (well, maybe). Others like this form one of the many temporary constuction/deconstruction offices.

We're slowly starting to see containers appearing as buildings in their own right. We'll see more and more of this as temporary buildings are constructed.

The cost of an new container is now NZ$6000. The price has doubled from what they were.

Thank you for your comments on yesterday's blip. Today I listened to Mark Quigley, the voice of our resident geologist who has made some sense of what we've been through in plain English. It's worth a listen.

He makes the oberservation that one outcome of the earthquakes is that the rich have got richer and the poor poorer.

Sadly he's right.

I was a winner today. I follow the AA's (Automobile Association's) twitter feed. For tweeting the name of a bridge that opened today (the Kopu Bridge) I have a fancy umbrella heading my way :-)
