New York at Dawn

We left NYC before sunrise today for a doctor's appointment back in Massachusetts.

I took this spur-of the-moment shot behind our apartment building, looking east, as I went to fetch the car (parked on Central Park West). Trees in Central Park make up the most distant background, and a bit of the buildings' parking lot is visible on the left (we can't claim a space in it, since we're not full time residents).

A slightly vertiginous close-up of the front of the building is here, with links to a couple of other views. The green structure on the right is one of several left over from extensive renovation work; the work seems done, and we hope they'll eventually disappear.

Today is my father's 110th birthday. Garrison Keillor, a radio personality, spoke generously of him this morning on NPR's The Writer's Almanac. Edward Fenner posted a lovely tribute to him a year ago on this site.

Edit: Edward has now put up a tribute for my father's 110th birthday today--also worth having a look at.
