MRS. POO'S HERITAGE

I mentioned last season that Mrs. Poo has a keen interest in Monarch Butterflies as it was her mother ( Grandma Poo ) ( Peg Thurston) who introduced them to the South Island. ( I mention it again as there are new people looking at these blips )

Monarchs tend to live in warmer climes & gran Poo brought a heap of crysalise from the North Island on Swan plants and installed them in her very large sun porch where they duly hatched and were released into Christchurch. This was in the late 1950's. People came to her house from all over the place to see the butterflies flying around her sun porch - before they were released.

The call went out for Christchurch people to plant Swan plants as its about the only ones the monarchs lay their eggs on. They responded and well done Gran Poo as the Monarchs are still thriving - some seasons more than others but they are well established now in Christchurch. This is one of those ancestors in our garden today. Gran Poo is well gone having lived well past 80 yrs.
