Cat's Eyes

"There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats." - Albert Schweitzer

A cat followed my daughter Felicity home on her 22nd birthday. That was three and a half years ago, and he decided to stay. Perhaps he sensed the void that our little poodle aged 18 had left behind only weeks earlier.

Until then, I hadn't had much experience with cats. We only ever spot the rear end of my mother's frightened feline, Amber.

Not being sure of the cat's sex, we gave it the androgynous (and we thought temporary) name of Sasha. After a couple of days 'hanging out' with us, Sasha was taken to the vet who confirmed that he had a chip, was approximately four years old, and that the owners were 'enthusiastic' for us to keep him.

In the past, I mistakenly believed that it was only dogs that were loyal, obedient and earned their supper. Sasha has fulfilled all these duties with aplomb, as I'm now sure all cats do, along with head massage and Russian fur hat imitation. Sasha however, unlike most cats, possesses a desire to travel by car...preferably on the dash board.
