A Day Worth Recording

Snowdrops

More snowdrops than you can shake a stick at.

A damp start to what should have been a walking day. We almost set off disregarding the rain, but were glad we didn't when hail pelted down an hour later.

We'd changed plan and gone to explore Wirksworth - somewhere I'd never heard of before but definitely worth a visit. It even had a preserved standard gauge railway (those who know me will know how difficult it was to choose a picture for today...).

I recommend the National Stone Centre (but suggest you skip the hail) - especially the fascinating dry-stone-walling 'sampler' they've built - never knew there were that many [very] different types.

On the way back, the sun having now emerged, we visited Hopton Hall where the grounds had a snowdrop or two.

Also stopped off at Carsington Water - a reservoir so new it wasn't on our OS map! OK, so maybe we ought to buy maps more often than every 30 years. Not as interesting as the other locations.
