Helmet Peak

Well, it looks just like that - the peak of a helmet. Perhaps the pickelhaube?

The Pickelhaube was a spiked helmet worn in the 19th and 20th centuries by German military, firefighters, and police. Although typically associated with the Prussian army, the helmet enjoyed wide use among uniformed occupations in the Western world.

The Pickelhaube was originally designed in 1842 by King Frederick William IV of Prussia. The basic Pickelhaube was made of hardened leather, given a glossy-black finish, and reinforced with metal trim that included a metal spike at the crown.

Of course, this peak has nothing to do with Imperial Prussia or Germany. It's just an interesting, lonely and barren sight, at 3832 ft, in Sahuarita, Arizona. The Spaniards who settled Southern Arizona didn't wear peaked helmets.

I'm betting the Tohono O'odom Indians had a different name for it before we Anglos got involved in naming natural wonders.

Look, it even has a heart-shaped face in the middle of it! I bet the Indians loved that.

EDIT: The more I stare at this, the more it looks like a dog to me. The heart shape looks like an eye, the other eye is in the shadows on the right side. The nose is pointing out to the right and there is a mark right above the nose on the forehead. The ear is on the lower left. Am I hallucinating?
