Thank you Snapshot Sam!

Today we went to an Arts and Crafts House called Blackwell just south of Bowness on Windermere. I had never heard of it until Snapshot Sam visited earlier this month and as we had a trip planned for our Wedding Anniversary this week we decided to go.

I can honestly say it is the most delightful place we have visited in the Lakes and is well worth the entrance fee. It has been open 11 years which just shows how remiss we have been in our visits since my parents had a caravan there from the 1960's to the 1990's.

Even the rainwater hoppers on the exterior of the building exude Arts and Crafts (as you can see here) and the interiors are stunning. It was designed by Hugh Baillie Scott and completed in 1900. It has views over the Lake - with fabulous window seats to sink into from which to enjoy them. Tea rooms too where I had Spiced Orange tea bread with optional award winning marmalade. (I was told that the chef had entered this in a competition to provide the Queen with for her break fast on her Jubilee morning-and he won!)

What a fabulous way to start our 3 day break in the Lakes.
