Townend Barn

This wonderful old barn was built in the 17th century and is still in use. It has a Victorian extension but what you can see is original.

The barn was originally property of the Browne family who lived at Townend, Troutbeck for over 400 years. They were affluent farmers and because the property stayed in the same family for so many generations a great deal of the original artefacts and fittings have remained the same.

It is now the property of the National Trust as the family died out in the 1940's, and we had a fascinating guided tour.

This morning we walked up to one of the best viewpoints over Lake Windermere. It was wonderfully warm but the views were very hazy.

We have had a super 3 days.
