Fat Friends

A happy gathering of bikes and cyclists old and young, fat and thin at Dunbar, East Lothian.

Big Fatties.

(The pure white background is due to the 100% fog we have here today, which if anything is thicker at the end of the day than at the start. Kinda spooky.)

Iain was over for the day and we took him along on one of our usual family cycles around town. After a lengthy detour to take in the Lochend Woods and the cycle paths leading back to the coast, we bumped into Bruce and his crew heading into town after touring the coast on their fat bikes (that is a great picture!).

It was fun to put faces to Facebook names, and to see so many of these amazing toys vehicles out together. The Surly Pugsley is a big beastie with 3.7" tyres, but Bruce has recently taken delivery of a Moonlander which with 4.7" tyres is just joyous comedy - which is why the 100mm rims (that's 4" wide rims folks) are called "Clown Shoes". Wonderful. And I got to ride about a bit on the enormous balloon tyres, what fun :)

The fat bikers were just as impressed with my 4-wheeler (tandem, tag-a-long, trailer) as I was with their bikes and a 'classic car rally' kind of atmosphere kicked right in. The children rolled their eyes and put up with us nerdy dads...

The Fat Dads were headed for the chip shop, we were off to the pub for lunch with 5 children (my four plus the usual extra), before the older lads headed off to the swimming pool.

Well met and a happy household to start this weekend.

EDIT: The Fat Dads made a movie of the day! We're in it towards the end if you fancy a giggle.
