He Shoots...He Scores!!!

I took 2 of my favorite women out this a.m. for a morning on the town. My wife Lisa and our Florida neighbor Faye. We were going to do it up big. No holds barred, no expenses spared.

Breakfast first at the Golden Arches. My thinking was that we had so much to do that we needed to eat quickly. Not a table to be had. "Don't these old people have anything else to do instead of eating at McDonalds? Have they never heard of a hot bowl of oatmeal at home?" Wilford Brimley would not be happy that they are not eating his Quaker Oats.

Then...on to the first of 3 scheduled garage sales. Hard to even find a spot to park."Don't these old people have anything to do besides being out looking for bargains?" I bought a Peterson bird book for a buck, and Faye spent 11 dollars on an assortment of stuff.

The second sale was a wash. "Don't these old people know when their garage sale prices are too high?" Lots of glassware. Faye spent another 50 cents. She always finds something.

At the 3rd sale, we never even got out of the car. A subdivision sale. "Don't these old people know that when you have a garage sale that you need to have more than 3 items?" A couch, a lamp, and a bicycle. Boy...that's really scaling back on your junk!

We finally made it to the botanical garden. A lot of pretty flowers, but also the chance to see the cycle of life. You pay 25 cents, and get a baggie full of turtle food. The turtles come in by voice command. Imagine how stupid we felt saying..."Here...turtle...turtle. We got some goodies for you!"

Before the turtles swam over...hundreds of tiny fish appeared...trying to drag down the pellets into the water so they could eat them. Here's where the cycle of life shows up. Man buys food to feed turtles and fish. Snowy egret sees man feeding fish. Snowy egret flies in, and dodges and dips for his breakfast. Man has wife throwing pellets so he can get Snowy Egret pictures. Everybody happy...except for the fish.

We stayed out so long that we had to have lunch. A little place called Sweet Berries. The chicken salad sandwich was delicious, but the Blackberry custard was cus-ter-iff-ic!

One more stop at a thrift store before heading home. I struck out there. 3 dollars for a CD? Not from this guy, but Faye did buy something.

After all of the old people thoughts, I walked into our condo, and was face-to-face with a mirror. "Who is that old guy, and what is he doing in our condo?" What's next...shuffleboard?

Click on LARGE to get a look at the unlucky fish. About every other trip out...the egret scored.
