Dawn's Journal

By DawnP

After a disappointing day yesterday, today dawned bright and sunny, and to satisfy a need for fresh air and exercise I headed of to a local, little known, arboretum in Windlesham.

The privately owned arboretum was created by the late Major William Spowers who generously allowed access to the estate during daylight hours, and it is crossed by public footpaths giving access to a magical world of trees, lakes, follies and monuments. Worryingly, there are signs that free roaming access may be restricted in future with the planting of hedges along the public routes.

The estate runs along the M3, and in my wanderings today I came across this resevoir which has obviously be subject to work and hedge clearance, such that the road is now visible at at this point. I deliberately tried to get the sense of the fast moving road in contrast to the calm, still reflections on the water. A bit more heavy traffic may have worked better
