The Edge of the Wold

Shivering sunset

The apparent warmth of the sun's rays in this shot belies just how cold it was standing on the Arnside promenade in the biting wind watching the sun sinking below the low fells opposite. After the barmy, balmy temperatures a week ago when we were yomping over Cairngorm mountains in t-shirts, the same places were under deep snow yesterday, and today the Lake District fells too were topped with icing sugar.

The Sunday blip of Reg elicited some wonderful stories of lost and found tortoises. Meanwhile, the cold weather has driven Reg into retreat. He's a fine-weather animal too used to basking under his heat lamp. At the moment he is head first in his arched piece of tree bark, with just his rear legs, tail and end of shell showing: reminding me of a VW Beetle neatly parked in a garage.

I have been absent from blip for a couple of days. I have had blippable photographs, but I'm afraid my Get up and Go has got up and gone. After coming back from Scotland with a cold, it's been about all I can do to turn out for work. I just haven't had the energy for anything else. But we are nearly at the Easter weekend with 4 whole days to recharge the batteries.

This blip is dedicated to Brokenbanjo who is particularly fond of Arnside sunsets. Indeed, there was someone else on the prom this evening with a fancy camera, so maybe there'll be two Arnside blip sunsets to delight BB tonight.
