"Treasures and Trinkets"

Thursday
I spent most of today at church helping set up for Lawn Fete on Saturday. It is a huge event at our church, with various stalls, Treasures and Trinkets where I was working, Sycamore Market Place, featuring hand-crafted and baked goods, book stall, childrens tent, furniture to be auctioned, and the silent auction featuring baskets donated by many people in the church, containing items based on a particular theme - eg. game night, gardening, music, cooking, etc, etc. Also featured in the silent auction are wonderful items created by some of our talented members - we have a number of very talented quilters, woodworkers, artists and a couple of very good photographers. There are also games for children, and a chicken dinner served in the evening. Treasures and Trinkets I think should be re-named Treasures, Trinkets and Junk! There is such a vast amount of stuff donated - its a daunting task sorting it - they meet once a week for weeks if not months beforehand pricing stuff. However, whilst I recognize that "one man's trash is another man's treasure" some of the stuff people donate I really think should just go straight in the garbage. It certainly gets you thinking though about how much unnecessary "stuff" we all own. The funds go towards various missions and work in the church. I shant be there much on Saturday though, as we are going up to Miami University in the afternoon to watch Laura playing in the marching band at the football game. Since they only play at the home games (except for the game against University of Cincinnati next weekend) and they dont do contests as at high school, there aren't as many opportunities to see them.
