Something old, something new...

The Pfister and Vogel Leather Company was located on the North East side of Milwaukee's Fifth Ward. It was a campus of buildings all build between 1846 and 1930.

After 1931, the Pfister and Volgel Leather Company split into two different companies in two different locations, and the campus was converted into the P & V Atlas Industrial Center. Snce then, buildings within the complex have been home to the Phillip Best Brewing Company and then the Pabst Brewing Company and bonded US Customs warehouse. Nowadays, one of the buildings is a medical center, and various Non-Profits operate out of various other locations.

Directly adjacent to the complex, the white pylons with white cables, is the recently remade 6th Street Viaduct. This was rebuilt in 2002 with an aesthetic to compliment the Milwaukee Art Museum's Quadracci Pavillion, built just a year before, as well as to allow Menomonee Valley access from downtown. This permits access to the Harley Davidson Museum, Potawatomi Bingo Casino, as well as the Hank Aaron State Trail.

To look at it, you might not think that the dirty brick and corrugated steel building is still in use (at least not in this picture), but it is. Milwaukee doesn't have too many of the glass-and-steel skyscrapers that other large cities have, but it has a very healthy historic building collection, and I'm appreciative for it. The contrasts only enhance the appeal of each other's beauty.
