Lifesaver

When I got the firm date for the start of radiation treatment I did a count based on skipped days for weekends and holidays and calculated that I'd finish on 16th May. That included not having a session today, Good Friday. I was surprised last Friday when I saw today included on my appointment card, but the nurses explained that today isn't a public holiday, so it's business as usual for them.

Public holiday or not, good old Ireland still sticks to the old traditions and bans the sale of alcohol today (it's even illegal to have a glass of wine in a restaurant). As well as that, the majority of retail outlets are closed today, everywhere goes dead, and it's very difficult to find anywhere for such a simple thing as a cup of coffee. So when I saw this place open on the way home from St Luke's I jammed on the brakes and made a dash for it.

The place is called Ambala, it's on Camden Street, and it specialises in Indian snacks and home-made scones, cakes and pastries. I fancied French toast, but that's only available as part of the breakfast menu, so I had scrambled egg instead – and very nice it was, and even more welcome after the delay I'd gone through at the hospital.

The rest of the day is  bit of a blur (writing this a week later). Probably listened to music. Possibly watched some TV.
