Turns out the nursing staff had been told be the consultant that the only person who had the right to break the news was my mother - they had been told not to say anything.

The medical staff today conformed that my mother has colon cancer which has spread to her bladder and maybe further. There is also more problems being caused by damage left from an operation many years ago which at some point will need to be sorted.

Mum doesn't want Dad told. That will be hard.

Went in to see Dad at the respite home after leaving Mum. He was sound asleep so didn't waken him. The staff seemed very nice and his 'personal' nurse knew who we were by name without having to be introduced.
I was impressed.
Turns out she had sat with Dad and gone through the photos he had brought in with him and obviously has a very good memory because she knew loads about the family and circumstances/drugs etc without having to refer to any notes.

Went down to Dunbar to visit The Wicked Witch and had a very tasty home made chilli.

Now back at home and having a few large drams.

Tomorrow it is back to the grind - organising new kitchen at parents, organising pension payments into new accounts, taking Dad to vistit Mum .............
