Enoshima, The island time forgot

We went to Kamakura today, which is an ancient capital of Japan that was founded about 1500 years ago. The city is rich in ancient temples and shrines and is really wonderful to visit. However, I personally prefer the nearby island of Enoshima. This is a tiny island, less than 4 km around, but is packed with temples and the homes of people living on the steep hills. The streets are so narrow, that in most places, you must use narrow staircases and footpaths to get around the houses. There are cats everywhere, thanks to the fishing industry there, and tourists also crowd the area, especially in summer, as there are extensive beaches with some of the best surfing in Japan.

I took this photo of these older gentlemen sharing a fishing story outside the fishmonger's shop to share with you today.
