Woodpecker at work

I was lucky today to catch the pileated woodpecker at work on one of the trees in the bog. I took several pictures of his efforts and posted them in my SmugMug gallery starting here, then chose this one for Blip because it really shows how intense he is as he tries to tear off that bark in search of some tasty morsels. To his right you can see the piece of bark that he just tore loose. He seemed pretty proud of his achievement. Another favorite from today's photo walk is this near collision. It's not technically a great picture, but it made me smile. Although the two ladies involved were probably more alarmed than pleased at their encounter. You can also see a titmouse, nuthatch, and two goldfinches on flickr. It was an exciting walk in the park, especially as I have not spent much time there lately. The grey gloom that has settled over our area just hasn't been conducive to taking sharp pictures. Today was an improvement, although it still wasn't sunny. We're beginning to wonder what real sunshine looks like. Maybe tomorrow???

I am enjoying the new Blipfoto. There are a number of improvements that I am pleased to see. I am disappointed to read so many harsh criticisms of the hard work done by the Blipfoto team. All the changes aren't going to please everyone, of course. That's the way it is when changes are made in anything. It takes time to get accustomed to them. It will also take time for Blip Central to work out the glitches that always occur when changes are made to a website, especially a site that has so many loyal, dedicated, and (frankly) wonderful members. Let's be patient, folks. This is still the greatest and friendliest photo site on the web.
