Light and shade

The light was beautiful this afternoon. After a week of fog (bar Wednesday afternoon which was warm and sunny) it was good to see light and shade. The crisis in Paris played out the way it was always going to, but all credit to the French authorities for treating as a criminal matter rather than one connected with a war on terror or any such project.

All the kids (we had visitors too this afternoon) were anxious just to know that the 'mechants' were dead. Though Paris is very far from us, today's events did feel too close to home for my liking.

And I have a shocking cold - which arrived all of a sudden at 3am this morning. Regardless, birthday cake was made for CarbBoy to take to school, roast pork for dinner and tomorrow an early start to his big day. 10 years old. Expect lots of words like 'sheesh' 'baby boy' 'how did that happen' etc etc tomorrow.

And tonight he told us all about the American Civil War. My baby boy is all grown up... (Oh hang on, that's tomorrow's speech!)

(But tonight I am revelling - quite literally - in my new electric blanket. Life is good.) (sniff)
