Master Sculptor

Today we hired a guide/friend to take us to several places that are logistically difficult to get to, plus since he grew up here he is full of a lifetime of experiences and information to share. (He's also quite personable and fun to be with!) This was ladies' day out, as it was my sister, me, and two friends. I don't think he minded at all.
We went to 1)the cochineal farm, 2) workshop where artisans create alebrijes, which are extremely fanciful and colorful carved and painted creatures, 3) scrumptious lunch 4) workshop of ladies who embroider stunningly gorgeous blouses 5) workshop in a town famous for it's black pottery and 6) workshop of José, who sculpts figures from clay. About 10 years ago he became blind because of glaucoma, so now all his work is completed totally by feel. He always has a twinkle in his eyes and a big smile, and it is a joy to watch him work!
Oh, and we also stopped to buy some mezcal that we all enjoyed a glass of when we arrived home!
A few photos of the alebrijes and pottery are here
