Letter Box

In the village a lane
Along the lane a wall,
Set in the wall a post box,
In the box a small
letter.

A bill? An invitation?
A 'thank you' or 'happy returns'?
A quick note? A dropped line?
A letter expressing concerns?

Out of the box the letter
Into the postie's van
Off to the sorting office
Just one more also-ran
letter.

It's a few years since I last blipped a letter box in our village.
