Soot and whitewash

That's how we used to describe prints made on a day like this - strong sun (especially at this time of year) and very deep shadow. The contrast range is huge, and it is very difficult to get satisfactory photos in these conditions. This is certainly true of this one - the boiler is actually black, but the sunlight and reflections make it look light grey! I'll have to go back to do all today's photos again another day, when the light is more suitable (this is one of a few images that the BCLM has asked me to take).
