Celebrity culture in Jamaica

Well, you could have knocked me down with a feather! I had no idea that our hotel, Tower Isle, had links with Hollywood .

Long before the world discovered celebrity culture the north coast of  Jamaica was ahead of the game – by some 60 odd years thanks to Errol Flynn.

Among the portraits lining the Piano Bar of people who have stayed here  are: Ann Miller, Errol Flynn, Joan Crawford, Walter Disney, Debbie Reynolds, Michael O’Shea, Eva Gabor, , Princess Margaret , Norman Wisdom, Lena Horne, Joe Lewis and Louis Armstrong.

But the big surprise was the photo of the Jamaican owner with Fidel Castro.
(I couldn’t resist being blipped with him)
No wonder the place has a certain glitzy glamour, very different from the usual modern holiday resort.

And we stumbled upon it by accident. Certainly our travel agent in Stirling had no inkling of its links to Hollywood.

Well times have changed. Gone are the international jet-setters to be replaced by package holidaymakers like us.

Gone are the formal evenings where men wore dinner jackets and women long dresses. Today formal is a shirt with collar, no t-shirts , no vests and no open toed shoes.
