Tattingstone Wonder

A walk around or near to Alton Water generally means you will walk through a carpark named The Wonder, The Wonder is actually just the other side of the road from the carpark.

It is actually a 17th Century folly. The Wonder was built as a row of farm workers cottages. At that time the owner of Tattingstone Place, Edward White wanted his view enhanced. The solution was to add gothic windows and a tower to the side he would see creating the impression of a church. From the other side the tower has no back. The property is now a private single residence.
