Tuesdays with Bill . . .

. . . at the Venice Art Center. Yes, it is a drive for me - 45 minutes each way, but it is worth it! This photo collage is a few photographs from Tuesdays class melded together in Photoshop Elements. That's my Instructor, Bill Buchman demonstrating and teaching. The colorful edge on the left is a snippet of the mixed media piece that he's working on, in front of him, when it was finished.

He started with regular pastels and payed attention to the sensitivity of his movement to produce a variety of lines. Then he added oil pastels with bolder movements, and lastly Aqua Briques, which are a thick, watercolor crayon -he wet some of those marks and they turned to watercolor. We are to do the same for our homework. He instructed us to remember to have a conversation with what we put on paper, to react to it. And the theme is freedom!!

Bill started class with a quote from Pablo Picasso:
“Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.”
Thus, I must do my homework!!

But tomorrow evening I will go see Bill and his band, The Art of Blues, perform at the Longboat Key Center for the Arts - outside in the Courtyard! Here is a sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7gV_hV58lU
Bill got his Masters from the New England Conservatory of Music and studied Art at the MOMA institute and Albany Institute. A very talented man. I am very lucky to be studying with him!

I will be back tomorrow to catch up with today!! ha!
