Evening on the Rakaia Gorge

Another day, another trip to the smoke, this time the briefest of visits to collect a rainwater tank and to have a business meeting with a videographer (how's that for a combo).

With the trailer weighed down with a 7500L tank, I decided to go down the quiet inland route home, rather down State Highway 1. The scenic route of Highway 72 really is just that; it winds its way along the foot of the mountains that form Mid-Canterbury's western boundary, crossing rivers and passing through small sleepy rural settlements.

An hour into the trip the road descends to the bridge over the Rakaia Gorge. Unlike the river crossing on the main road South, the bridge here is one lane and in two short spans. In the middle is a parking spot and viewpoint - the walkway to which is close post-earthquakes - but parking up the truck and trailer gave me the opportunity to stand in the middle of the quiet road to get his shot looking upstream.

Tomorrow I'll see if I can sort out the tank. We're forecast some wet-stuff over the next few days, so here's hoping I can fill it with some much needed rain.
