MonoMonday #55: Bridge over the Rangitata

After reading that today's MonoMonday challenge was "Bridge" I knew I had to capture the bridge over the Rangitata that carries State Highway 72 between Geraldine and Mayfield.

This bridge is a sign of us arriving home after a trip north; it's the last stretch of road before we turn off towards the mountains on the south side of the bridge at Arundel.

Tonight's evening was a gorgeous one - not too cold, not too warm, with a warm orange sky that faded to a cool blue, the distant mountains fading to shadows in the gloaming. You call call it a textbook late summer's evening.

It seems I wasn't the only one keen to engage in their chosen pasttime in the still evening air, as these two fisherman did their best to outwit the Rangitata river's wily salmon. The fisher closest to the bridge said he caught a small one earlier, but released it back, whereas the chap nearest the camera hadn't got anything yet. This is a reasonably frequented spot, and there's usually a vehicle or two parked up by the rocks on the true right of the river below the bridge. Tonight, a photographer joined them on their quest for the perfect catch too...
