But, then again . . . . .

In the Wind Break.

Posted 20th February.

This small section of woods provides a wind break for a plant nursery to our right which includes Roslin's walled garden. It was originally part of an estate that is now buried underneath the bing, an enormous spoil heap from the Bilston Glen Colliery. Perhaps, one day I'll get around to doing some rudimentary research and write a little bit about it.

To the left is part of the Roslin Institute, the part which we used to call the Poultry Research Centre, we no longer know what happens in there but most of the research work has been decamped to a new(ish) complex a mile to the west at Easter Bush. There was a time when there was a run full of what I would describe as game cocks - very slim and colourful birds which gave off a definite aura of athleticism. In the days when Jnr was learning to ride a bike we used to frequent this patch and admire the birds, I don’t know what became of them - but, in general, athletes do not make good eating.
