Cheerful, but Sad

A fire is always a cheerful sight and this one was no exception, however, the items being burned were the frames of windows, now more than one hundred years old and although these had some rot in them and could not be saved, it was still very sad to see them destroyed.  The wood beam glowing bright orange in the firelight has a tenon joint  at its left-hand end, this joint still has the pencil markings from the pencil of the craftsman who cut it more than one hundred years ago at the base of the junction of these two pieces of wood; due to the glare of the fire it is not possible to see the marking in this picture, but it was very clear in normal daylight.
