#Lent with @CAFOD: tree planted by streams

“The [one whose] delight is in the law of the Lord  is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.”

Today's reflection writes about Caritas Myanmar helping people plant trees as natural barriers, to protect villages from future floods.

My photo today is of a bud on the majestic fig tree that grows outside my kitchen window, in less than majestic surroundings. There's no sign of streams of water nearby. But there must be some sort of water nearby, or it wouldn't flourish as much as it does. Every year I enjoy watching the buds burst into leaf, into wide, glossy fig leaves, which over the months gradually curl up and fall off. And I love to see the tree when it is bare too.

Our own streams of living water might not always be visible. But Lent is a good time to think about what or who keeps us flourishing, shades us from the sun and protects us from the wind.
