but I have to make my own rainbows as there is no sun.

The technical bits: this is very easy to do with hard plastic subjects and 2 polarisers: e.g. a polarising filter and a monitor.  In the past I have used my iPad with a plain white background as one of the polarisers, but today chose to use the TV with a white backgraound streamed from my laptop for more "real estate".  A laptop screen or desktop monitor should also work. Then compose your subjects (3 plastic wine glasses on a piece of glass), adjust the polariser to get the effect you want and shoot!
