Gently down the stream

One trick pony

This is the Great Hall in Winchester.  It's a bit of a one trick pony as it houses the Round Table (which is what everyone comes to see) and really nothing else except a peculiarly hideous statue of Queen Victoria, herself a peculiarly hi...   (shh!)

The Round Table, which you can see here just, rightish back, was made in about 1200.  Henry VIII had it painted as it now is, in the form of King Arthur's Round Table.  Of course he had himself painted as Arthur.  Honestly, these kings and queens, they're such a trouble!

But as today's Mono Monday was about ancient buildings, not ancient furniture, I thought I'd try to get a flavour of the Hall instead.  It bills itself 'one of the finest surviving aisled halls of the 13th century'.  It certainly is pretty wonderful and like, I guess, all medieval buildings has a wonderful way of streaming light.

So here we are.  Have a good day folks.  xx
